New Year, New Shoes, New Goals! Time to start blogging again. I went over to the Running Center today to get a new pair of shoes (I haven't been tracking it online, but my 15s had over 800 miles on them, yikes!).  Like usual, I ended up walking out of there with Mizunos--this time the Wave Rider 16s.  I tried to get a few miles on them before work today. 6 miles up toward Summit and back. 8:30/mile.

My biggest obstacle has still been figuring out my blood sugar.  My Dietician told me over and over again that it is a "steep learning curve," but once I get it figured out and get in the habit of regulating myself, I shouldn't have any problems.  Luckily, I have at least figured a few things out! As simple and stupid as it sounds, one big thing for me has been carrying Sourpatch Kids with me and popping a few in my mouth every mile or two.  The other big thing is to get chocolate milk immediately after finishing a run...the sugar and protein help recovery a lot!  The main (and hardest) thing that I have to focus on is what I eat before I run.  I can no longer just wake up and run.  I have to eat a small meal two hours before I run, and half an hour before I run I have to choke down an applesauce/corn starch mixure.  These things have definitely been a bit of a pain in the butt, but it has made me appreciate running so much more!  Even though it takes so much extra effort and planning, I am so incredibly grateful to still be out there doing the thing I love most!
