I need to go back and fill in the last couple of weeks, but for now I'll just get today taken care of.

AWESOME RUN! 10.5 Church Loop Extension from my house, around Summit, around St. James, around LV Park, and home. 8:48/mile and it felt pretty easy! Didn't run into any blood sugar issues until the last 2.5 miles, but at that point I had so much adrenhaline I pushed through it well. The Powells were driving by so I stopped to talk to them for a minute. The weather was great. Great run.
Sat, 02 Feb 2013 07:00:00 Sun, Jan 13, 2013 http://meghansimonson.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-13-2013.html
4 miles on 2450 S. today. 9:01/mile. Kept it extremely easy so I can hit it hard for speedwork tomorrow. Planning to hit the gym after work today.

****************

Upper body tonight, first time going to the gym since I moved out in August....yikes! I plan on going consistently until I leave for my mission. I definitely have a lot of work to do in order to build up my strength, but I know it well help me get faster for the big race!
Sun, 13 Jan 2013 07:00:00 Sat, Jan 12, 2013 http://meghansimonson.fastrunningblog.com/blog-01-12-2013.html 8 mile Stake Center Loop today. I was nervous to go that far today because yesterday was the first time in weeks that I went over 5 miles, but I felt great! I really pushed it the last 2.5 miles. I was shooting for ten minute miles, but ended up averaging 8:48/mile. Not bad for my first long run! The new shoes felt great. I went over to the Running Center today to get a new pair of shoes (I haven't been tracking it online, but my 15s had over 800 miles on them, yikes!). Like usual, I ended up walking out of there with Mizunos--this time the Wave Rider 16s. I tried to get a few miles on them before work today. 6 miles up toward Summit and back. 8:30/mile.

My biggest obstacle has still been figuring out my blood sugar. My Dietician told me over and over again that it is a "steep learning curve," but once I get it figured out and get in the habit of regulating myself, I shouldn't have any problems. Luckily, I have at least figured a few things out! As simple and stupid as it sounds, one big thing for me has been carrying Sourpatch Kids with me and popping a few in my mouth every mile or two. The other big thing is to get chocolate milk immediately after finishing a run...the sugar and protein help recovery a lot! The main (and hardest) thing that I have to focus on is what I eat before I run. I can no longer just wake up and run. I have to eat a small meal two hours before I run, and half an hour before I run I have to choke down an applesauce/corn starch mixure. These things have definitely been a bit of a pain in the butt, but it has made me appreciate running so much more! Even though it takes so much extra effort and planning, I am so incredibly grateful to still be out there doing the thing I love most!

Fri, 11 Jan 2013 07:00:00
